Our original plan was to head down for a Wednesday night - Saturday afternoon trip. We ended up leaving a day early, packing up after breakfast on Friday. The sun was brutal and the kids all got terribly sunburned. They were begging (some even crying) to go home.
The first night was great, but not without challenges. After setting up camp we struggled to get my grill to actually stay lit long enough to cook dinner. The kids were "starving" but consoled themselves by playing in the water. It really was a nice evening, especially once I allowed myself to relax enough to enjoy it.
Morning on the beach is by far the best time of the day! Fresh, breezy, beautiful. So worth spending an itchy night sleeping in a sand-filled tent. It even rained on us - luckily we put up the rainfly...inside the tent...as the rain was pouring down on all of us. It made for quite an adventure. Katrina actually saved the day by suggesting we put the rainfly up inside in the first place. There was enough breeze that once we tacked down the corners it lifted and created a nice dome. After that we were able to be quite cozy and slept the rest of the night under it. Simon woke in the morning wondering why I had moved everyone out of the big tent and into a little tent.
One of my favorite photos is the one with Oliver and cousin, Bella, strolling on the beach. They were inseparable and had so much fun together.
As the sun came out it got HOT, HOT, HOT! Just how hot will be continued in the next post...
