For Halloween this year we had:
-a snowman - Gabriel
-a rock star - Katrina
-Winter (character from a book) - Abagail
- Batman - Simon
- Winnie-the-Pooh - Oliver
- kitten - Amelia
We had a fun and busy Halloween. This year Gabriel went with some friends, Katrina went with her friends, and Abagail went with her friends for trick-or-treating. My friend snagged Amelia when we stopped by her house so that only left me with Simon and Oliver to trick-or-treat.
After ringing 1/2 of the doors in our loop Oliver informed me that he was done. He said he had enough candy in his bucket and didn't want any more. Simon was getting tired too and they were ready to go home. The only problem was that we were at the end of our street - which is a loop. So, no matter which way we went we would have to walk the same distance home - which was equal to the distance they had just come.
I gave a few piggy-back rides and we skipped most of the rest of the houses and headed home. Simon did ask if we could ring just a few more houses....
All in all, you take a pumpkin bucket, multiply it by 5 children and we ended up with a TON of candy. (Excited kids - Mom scheming on ways to "share" the candy with others)

I finally got rid of all our candy and then one of the nice mothers of the kids decided to share their wealth with mine...sigh. Makes for great gingerbread houses here in a month or so though. But make sure you don't hide it too well, my parents found the stash from last year in a huge cooler in the pantry.
Good idea about the gingerbread houses. I forgot about that. We have done that the past few years. The kids eat candy as they make the houses and maybe for a day or two after, then we end up throwing the houses away. End of candy.
Halloween candy has also resurfaced at other "candy" related holidays throughout the year and made appearances in goody bags passed out at birthday parties.
One year we even had enough left over of the hard candy that we passed it out the next Halloween...
